Who are we?

VIENNA WALKS & TALKS is a family-run company of certified travel agents and licensed AUSTRIAGUIDES with years of experience. We provide high standard sightseeing services tailored to your specific requirements. Based in Vienna, we help you discover the highlights as well as the hidden treasures of our native city and other parts of Austria in an unconventional and entertaining way (and preferably away from the madding crowds). In addition, we offer talks on a variety of Austria-related subjects, and ancestry research services.

Dr. Brigitte Timmermann

Brigitte is the founder and senior partner of VIENNA WALKS & TALKS. An English language and history PhD graduate of the University of Vienna, she is a well-known professional AUSTRIA GUIDE and tour director with years of experience both in academia and the tourist business. Coming from a teaching background, she has that special enthusiasm for sharing her considerable knowledge with others. It is therefore not surprising that she was among the first professional guides in Vienna to offer themed walking tours to complement the more general bus tours and allow visitors to enjoy the rarer sights of the city. Over the years, she has compiled a renowned repertory of scores of themed tours. She is also internationally recognized as the leading Vienna-based authority on the celebrated Graham Greene/Carol Reed classic, THE THIRD MAN, the iconic Vienna film shot in the war-torn city in 1948. Her tour "The Third Man - Vienna in the Footsteps of the Third Man"© is recommended by all major guidebooks and has long been a highlight for film buffs from all over the world. She also gives illustrated talks and presentations on Austrian and Central European subjects, as well as art history.

Kerstin Hög-Timmermann

Kerstin joined VIENNA WALKS & TALKS as a junior partner in 2002. After graduating from a College of Tourism, she took up law at the University of Vienna which has made her the legal and administrative expert of the company. She is also a professionally trained tourist guide and loves guiding just as much as doing research for customized tours off the beaten track. She is also a brilliant organizer, no matter whether it is for a family party of four or a convention of 400. If there is anybody who is an expert for places that are not on the tourist map, it is Kerstin. A dedicated Girl Scout Leader for years, she also has considerable experience in team-building activities, Treasure Hunts and City Safaris, be they for school trips, birthday parties, corporate incentives or congress groups. Equally gifted with children and adults, Kerstin has a talent for making even seemingly boring Roman excavations or medieval jurisdiction sound fun. She has recently added professional ancestry research to her portfolio.

Christopher Timmermann

Originally an electronics engineer by training, Christopher's mainstay has also become professional guiding and tour directing. Among his many special interests are 20th century Austrian history, the naval history of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the subterranean world of Vienna. His clients appreciate his broad knowledge, dry humour and easy-going manner. If there is a word that sums up his style of guiding, it is “infotainment”! He has also been a Boy Scout leader and draws on years of experience with international camps and jamborees. Naturally, he loves the outdoors and is our specialist for hiking and cycling tours. A keen photographer himself, he also helps his guests discover Vienna through a camera lense while introducing them to what is essential to know about Vienna.

Sonya

Sonya, a five-year old Golden Retriever, has only just joined the Vienna Walks & Talks team. She was abandoned by her owners, rescued by an Animal Charity, and has finally found her forever home with us. She now occupies a key position in the office, always craving for a cuddle - not only from us but also our customers!
