We are back in business!

Due to the low amount of people in the city we made a booking mandatory. So please write us a short email info@viennawalks.com if you intend to come to our tours.

Vienna Walks & Talks is a family run company of certified travel agents and licensed tourist guides (equivalent to UK Blue Badge Guides) with years of experience of providing high standard travel and sightseeing services tailored to your specific requirements. Based in Vienna, we help you discover the highlights as well as the hidden treasures of Vienna and other parts of Austria in an unconventional and entertaining way (and away from the madding crowds) but also offer planning and arranging group travel abroad.

Dr. Brigitte Timmermann

Brigitte is the founder and senior partner of VIENNA WALKS & TALKS. A history and English language graduate of the University of Vienna, she is a well-known and highly respected professional AUSTRIA GUIDE and tour director with years of experience both in academia and the tourist business. Coming from a teaching background, she has that special enthusiasm for sharing her knowledge with others, no matter whether it is on a sightseeing tour of Vienna, Salzburg or other places of interest in Europe. It is therefore not surprising that she was among the first in Vienna to offer themed walking tours of the city to complement the more general bus tours and allow visitors to enjoy the rarer sights of the city. Over the years, she has compiled a repertory of scores of themed tours. She is also internationally recognized as the leading Vienna-based authority on the celebrated Graham Greene/Carol Reed classic, THE THIRD MAN, the iconic Vienna movie shot in the war-torn city in 1948. Her tour "The Third Man - Vienna in the Footsteps of the Third Man"© is recommended by all major guide books and has been a highlight for film-buffs from all over the world for years. She also gives illustrated talks & presentations on Austrian and Central European subjects, as well as art history.

Barbara Timmermann

Just as enthusiastic and lively as her mother is Barbara, who joined VIENNAWALKS & TALKS as a junior partner in 2002. It is not surprising that her interest in other cultures, her work experience abroad and her love of both foreign languages and adventure qualify her quite naturally for a career in guiding and tourism. A graduate of a Vienna College of Tourism she is a brilliant organizer when it comes to setting up sightseeing programmes for large parties, but her knowledge, thoughtfulness, and most of all, her flexibility are also greatly appreciated by small parties or individual travellers. Among her many special themes are Jewish Vienna, the world of the Habsburgs, and post-World War II history. With her eye for the eccentric and her sense of humour she easily catches the hearts of her clients, and it is hardly surprising that she is very much in demand. When she is not guiding, she is in charge of the company's books, indulges in diving, skippering through the Mediterranean, or improving her command of the Spanish language.

Kerstin Timmermann

Barbara's sister Kerstin who also joined VIENNA WALKS & TALKS as a junior partner in 2002, is the legal and administrative brain of the company. After graduating from the same College of Tourism as Barbara, she took up law at the University of Vienna. Like everybody else in the company, she loves guiding just as much as doing research for customized tours. If there is anybody who is an expert for places that are not on the tourist map, it is Kerstin. A dedicated Girl Scout Leader for years, she also has a lot of experience in team building activities, Treasure Hunts and City Safaris, no matter whether it is for school trips or birthday parties, incentives or congress groups. Equally brilliant with children and adults, she has a talent at making even seemingly boring Roman excavations or medieval jurisdiction sound fun.

Christopher Timmermann
An electronics engineer by training, Christopher's mainstay is now also in guiding and tour directing. His clients love him for his broad knowledge, his dry humour and his easygoing manner. A dedicated Boy Scout Leader for years with as much international experience as Kerstin, he is also a great organizer and gets much praise for making everyone hang on his every word. You want to hike through the Vienna Woods and visit one of the oldest Cistercian abbeys of Austria, or explore the Danube National Park to learn more about its unique flora and fauna and Napoleon's defeat of 1809? You are a keen photographer and want to discover Vienna through the lens of your camera while listening to Christopher's commentary on the city's medieval past? You are interested in the naval history of imperial Austria or in more eerie subjects such as baroque burial crypts? Then he is your man. Just ask for Christopher.

What would office life be without Dill, our golden retriever lady? You normally find her lying under somebody's desk, whiling her day away. Action starts when someone calls at the door. Nosy Dill wants to be the first to say hello. When she is not in the office, she loves swimming and the beaches of South Devon.
